2008 Game Results

3/5 vs. Indian Hill
   - The first game of the new season took place on a cold and windy day.  The Aviators hoped to continue their winning ways against Indian Hill, having won both meetings in 2007.  Unfortunately, that was not the case, as Sycamore was unable to mount an effective offensive attack.  After shutting out Indian Hill in the first half, the Aviator defense regressed in the second, giving up 5 goals on 7 shots.  Attack Derrick Kihembo scored 2 goals and Sam Kramerfiely added another.  Goalie Ryan Hall made 9 saves in the contest.
Final Score:  Aviators 3, Braves 5.
Overall Record:  0-1.
OMSLA Record: 0-1.
2007/2008 Record: 12-8.

3/15 vs. Lakota
   - After being forced to reschedule a couple of games due to a major snow storm, the Aviators arrived as a hungry bunch to face a Lakota team that they'd split the 2007 series with, despite feeling that they were a better group of players.  Sycamore never trailed in this contest, jumping out to a 3-0 first quarter lead.  Kyle Sess and Jack Bernard spent most of the evening guarding Lakota's best player, while the rest of the defense and middies shut down his help.  He was able to score 6 goals on the evening, but was not able to get his teammates involved.  Ryan Hall turned away 9 shots on the night, while Adam Cole, Derrick Kihembo and Sean Cone led the Aves in groundballs, with 3 each.  Sycamore was able to put the ball in the back of the cage 11 times, but only generated 3 assists.  The score could have been much worse, as Sycamore tallied 17 unforced turnovers and was only able to win 7 of the 20 faceoffs held during the conest.  Leading scorers for the Aviators were Derrick Kihembo (5 goals, 2 assists), Sam Kramerfiely (3 goals), Sean Cone (1 goal, 1 assist), Charlie Johnson (1 goal), and Vladimir Jovic (1 goal).  Sycamore won't get much time to celebrate, as they face Mariemont tomorrow morning.
Final Score:  Aviators 11, Firebirds 7.
Overall Record:  1-1.
OMSLA Record: 1-1.
2007/2008 Record: 13-8.

3/16 @ Mariemont
   - With just 18 hours between contests, the challenge for Sycamore was going to be whether or not they had any energy in reserve from the previous evening's game.  By taking a 4-0 first quarter lead and 5-1 lead into halftime, the Aviators showed that they had plenty.  Despite several mental errors (unsportsmanlike conduct, offsides, and slashing penalties), Sycamore never let Mariemont believe that they had an opportunity to win the game.  Sycamore dominated all phases of the game, totaling just 7 unforced turnovers and winning 11 of 17 faceoffs.  Sycamore's defense limited Marimeont to only 15 shots on the game, with Ryan Hall making 11 saves.  Sycamore totaled 25 shots, putting 11 behind the goalie and into the cage.  The biggest improvement for Sycamore to date, has been their willingness to make a pass to open teammates, as evidenced by their 7 assists in this game, bettering their total in their previos 2 contests combined.  Leading scorers were Derrick Kihembo (6 goals, 2 assists), Sam Kramerfiely (2 goals, 3 assists), Sean Cone (1 goal, 1 assist), Charlie Johnson (1 goal), Tommy Rivera (1 goal) and Keaton Pangallo (1 assist).  Kramerfiely also led all players with 5 groundballs, with Kyle Sess adding 5 of his own.
Final Score:  Aviators 11, Warriors 4.
Overall Record:  2-1.
OMSLA Record: 2-1.
2007/2008 Record: 14-8.

4/3 @ Indian Hill Recreation
   - After a long break between games due to Spring Break and rainouts, the Aviators had a bit of rust to work out before their upcoming battle against a tough Moeller team.  Sycamore was never able to get in sync offensively, making numerous bad throws and poor decisions, which led to many groundball opportunities for both teams.  On the day, Sycamore set a team record with 34 groundball wins, with Sam Kramerfiely and Vladimir Jovic leading the way with 6 apiece.  Others contributing to the effort were Derrick Kihembo (4), Sean Cone (3), Bo Weber (3), Adam Cole (3), Kyle Sess (2), Tommy Rivera (2), Jack Bernard (2), Keaton Pangallo (1), Alex Miller (1) and Jonah Bettman (1).  Because of the sloppy play, Sycamore was only able to tally 5 goals, after totaling 12 in their victory against Indian Hill Rec in 2007.  Derrick Kihembo again led all scorers with 3 goals and an assist, including another highlight reel goal that he scored by performing an Indian pickup of a ground ball in front of the crease and shooting underhanded and backhanded.  Sean Cone and Keaton Pangallo each added 1 goal, with Sam Kramerfiely and Bo Weber adding assists.  Ryan Hall turned in another solid first half performance, yielding just 1 goal on 9 shots.  In the second half, the Braves were able to bury 2 of their 4 shots.
Final Score:  Aviators 5, Braves 3.
Overall Record:  3-1.
OMSLA Record: 3-1.
2007/2008 Record: 15-8.

4/5 vs. Moeller
   - Playing a sloppy game against Indian Hill just two days prior to this home contest played at Moeller had the Sycamore coaching staff worried.  Moeller was 2-0 entering the contest, winning its games by a margin of 33-5 and having beaten Indian Hill Recreation 14-4.  The Aviators, after having listened to Coach Cole discuss the importance of staying focused and concentrating on details, showed early that the Jr. Crusaders were not going to repeat their dominating performances by jumping out to a 3-1 first quarter lead.  Sycamore's defense, led by Ryan Hall's 10 saves in goal, stifled the Moeller attack all day and negated the sticks skills of the Jr. Crusaders by playing solid off-ball defense.  The Aviators were once again led in scoring by Derrick Kihembo, with 5 goals on 11 shots.  Also tallying points were Sam Kramerfiely (2 goals), Vladimir Jovic (1 goal), Sean Cone (1 assist) and Bo Weber (1 assist).  Going into their game against Loveland next week, Sycamore is focused on eliminating unforced errors and winning the faceoff battle.  On the game, the Aviators made 19 unforced errors and were only able to win 3 of the faceoff draws.
Final Score:  Aviators 8, Jr. Crusaders 5.
Overall Record:  4-1.
OMSLA Record: 4-1.
2007/2008 Record: 16-8.

4/8 vs. Loveland
   - Sycamore's goal entering this game was to avenge the second of it's 3 bad losses from 2007.  The other bad losses were to Blue Jays and Moeller, with the Moeller loss having been taken care of on Saturday.  The Tigers were no match for the Aviators' team attack, and were held to only 2 goals for the game.  Nick Dougherty drew the assignment of covering Loveland's best player and held him to 1 goal, with help from the rest of the Aviator defenders and midfielders.  Loveland played a physical game, serving several penalties for cross checking and slashing, with several penalties called on frustrated Loveland players.  Sycamore jumped out to a 3-0 first quarter lead and put the game away in the second quarter, adding 3 more goals to the Tigers 1.  At halftime, the Aviator coaches discussed the need to put the Moeller game behind them and to focus on the task at hand, as several unforced errors -- including those as a result of showboating -- kept the score closer than it should have been.  The Aviator offense took the message to heart, pouring on 5 goals in the 3rd quarter.  The Aviators were led in scoring by Derrick Kihembo and Sam Kramerfiely, who both scored 4 goals and added 3 assists and 2 assists, respectively.  Middie Sean Cone had his highest-scoring game of the season, with 3 goals on 4 shots and he also added an assist.  Charlie Johnson, Kyle Sess and Tommy Rivera rounded out the goal scoring for Sycamore with 1 apiece.  Bo Weber added an assist to his point total.  Sycamore's defense allowed just 10 shots for the entire game, with Ryan Hall saving 7 of them and Jack Bernard saving another.  Despite a lack of focus early in the contest, Sycamore was able to eliminate many unforced errors, totaling just 11 on the day.  The Aviators have 5 days off until their next contest against Milford and then play 6 games in the next 11 days.
Final Score:  Aviators 14, Tigers 2.
Overall Record:  5-1.
OMSLA Record: 5-1.
2007/2008 Record: 17-8.

4/15 @ Anderson
   - With their 4/14/08 game against Milford cancelled, the Aviators had a slightly longer than expected break betwee games.  Sycamore's defense and middies gave up 4 quick and easy goals to the Blue Jays and the Aviator coaches were worried about a repeat of last year's loss.  Trailing 4-1 at the end of the first quarter, thanks to a Derrick Kihembo goal and Kyle Sess assist, Sycamore rededicated themselves to marking up on defense, communicating, and executing on offense.  The Aviators scored 4 goals in the second quarter - 2 by Sam Kramerfiely, Derrick Kihembo's second goal of the game, and Keaton Pangallo.  Assists from Sean Cone and Keaton Pangallo on Kramerfiely's goal and Kramerfiely on Pangallo's goal showed that ball movement returned.  Sycamore and Anderson played even in the 3rd quarter, scoring 2 goals apiece.  Unfortunately, the Blue Jays outscored the Aviators by 1 in the 4th quarter to send the game into overtime.  The first 4 minute overtime did not yield a winner, so the game went into a second overtime period.  With fewer than 10 seconds left in the second overtime, Sean Cone threw up a prayer of a shot that seemed to bounce off of 2 defenders and the goalie before trickling across the goal line for the win.  The Blue Jays dominated the faceoff battle, preventing Sycamore from winning a single faceoff after halftime.  Goalie Ryan Hall played a magnificent game, making 17 saves, many of which were 1 on 1 versus the shooter.  Sycamore's scoring leaders were:  Kihembo (3 goals, 1 assist), Kramerfiely (2 goals, 2 assists), Cone (1 goal, 1 assist), Charlie Johnson (1 goal), Vladimir Jovic (1 goal), Keaton Pangallo (1 goal), Kyle Sess (1 assist).  Grounball leaders were:  Adam Cole (6), Sess (5), Cone (5), Kramerfiely (4), Kihembo (3), Pangallo (3), Bo Weber (3), Nick Dougherty (2), Jack Bernard (1).  The Aves have 1 day off before travelling to Wyoming to face the Cowboys.  Winners now of 6 straight games, the Sycamore lacrosse team is hungry to continue extending their record winning streak and securing a top 5 seed in the OMSLA Division 1 tournament.
Final Score:  Aviators 9, Blue Jays 8 (2 OT).
Overall Record:  6-1.
OMSLA Record: 6-1.
2007/2008 Record: 18-8.

4/17 @ Wyoming
   - After an ugly first half, in which the Aviators committed 10 unforced errors, Sycamore poured on the points in the second half against an overmatched Wyoming Cowboys team.  The Sycamore coaching staff had challenged their players to execute the offense to perfection and not to worry about the opponent.  Unfortunately, the first half of the game saw too many attempts to be a "one man show," and the Aviators only tallied 6 goals.  At halftime, the Sycamore players seemed to take the close score (6-3) as an embarrasment and outscored Wyoming 9-3 in the second half.  Leading scorers for the Aviators were Sam Kramerfiely (4 goals, 2 assists), Derrick Kihembo (4 goals, 2 assists), Sean Cone (3 goals, 1 assist), Vladimir Jovic (2 goals, 1 assist), Jonah Bettman (1 goal), Adam Cole (1 goal) and Keaton Pangallo (1 assist).
Final Score:  Aviators 15, Cowboys 6.
Overall Record:  7-1.
OMSLA Record: 7-1.
2007/2008 Record: 19-8.

4/21 @ Indian Hill Middle School
   - The Aviators appeared to take control of the game early, scoring just 19 seconds into the contest on a goal by Derrick Kihembo and assist by Sam Kramerfiely.  The goal was a harbinger of things to come, as Sycamore was unable to generate any set offensive goals on the game and relied on their few fastbreak opportunities to score.  Charlie Johnson added a nice rebound goal in the first quarter, but Sycamore trailed 3-2 at halftime.  Sycamore was held scoreless in the 3rd quarter and trailed 6-2 in the fourth before Derrick Kihembo added his second goal of the game on an EMO opportunity, with Kyle Sess adding the assist.  Sean Cone scored a goal late to close out the scoring for the Aviators.  Indian Hill controlled the ball for most of the game and exhibited strong defensive stick checks when Sycamore was able to wrest control of the ball away.  To their credit, the Aviators never gave up and fought until the final horn sounded.  Their first of 6 games in 5 days left plenty for Sycamore to work on as they begin their stretch run to a State Tournament bid.
Final Score:  Aviators 4, Indians 6.
Overall Record:  7-2.
OMSLA Record: 7-1.
2007/2008 Record: 19-9.

4/22 @ Middletown Fenwick
   - Sycamore jumped out to a 3-0 first quarter lead and 7-1 halftime lead in this game against an overmatched Fenwick Falcons team.  Showing their frustration after having been held 5 goals below their season average in the previous game, the Aviators erupted for 12 goals in this contest.  Due to an injury to leading scorer Derrick Kihembo, Defenseman Adam Cole moved to Attack and scored 2 goals while adding an assist.  Kihembo played almost exclusively during EMO sets and added 4 goals and 1 assist to his season totals.  Other leading scorers  were Sam Kramerfiely (2 goals, 4 assists), Sean Cone (1 goal, 1 assist), Keaton Pangallo (2 goals), Vladimir Jovic (1 goal), and Charlie Johnson (1 assist).  The biggest story in this game was the dominance on faceoffs by Sycamore, who won 12 of the 18 held and committing just 9 unforced errors.  Goalie Ryan Hall faced few shots, saving 11 of the 12 that came his way.  With just one day of practice before facing Lakota, the Aviators will continue adding wrinkles to their defensive and offensive packages.
Final Score:  Aviators 12, Falcons 1.
Overall Record:  8-2.
OMSLA Record: 8-1.
2007/2008 Record: 20-9.

4/24 @ Lakota
   - The Aviators defense set a goal of not allowing Evan Hodel to score a goal in this contest, after he accounted for 6 in their first contest.  Kyle Sess, Jonah Bettman and Jack Bernard combined to shut-off #32 and accomplished their goal with the help of Ryan Hall in the cage.  Hodel was held scoreless and the entire Lakota team managed just 7 shots on goal (including 0 in the 2nd quarter) for the entire game.  The offense for Sycamore became too enthralled with passing the ball through the middle of the Lakota defense, limiting scoring opportunities, but Sean Cone and Sam Kramerfiely stepped up to pace the Aviator offensive attack.  Kramerfiely put 3 of his 10 shots into the cage, while Cone put 2 of his 9 -- including one that was a pass to Adam Cole that bounced off of Cole's stick and leg before crossing the goal line.  Cole and Charlie Johnson each tallied 2 assists, with Keaton Pangallo rounding out the scoring for the Aviators with 1 goal.  Sycamore finishes a busy week by traveling to Carmel, IN on Saturday for 3 games against out of state opponents.
Final Score:  Aviators 6, Firebirds 1.
Overall Record:  9-2.
OMSLA Record: 8-1.
2007/2008 Record: 21-9.

4/26 vs. Michigan Warriors (@ Carmel, IN)
   - Sycamore traveled to Carmel, Indiana to participate in a Round Robin tournament against teams from Michigan, Indiana and Illinois.  After a 2-hour drive, the Aviators got on the board quickly, jumping to 2-0 and 4-2 leads against a quality Warriors team.  Unfortunately, the second half got away from them, and Sycamore was unable to add to their goal total.  The Warriors totaled 6 unanswered goals to secure the victory.  Vladimir Jovic lead the Aves in scoring with 2 goals, while Derrick Kihembo and Sam Kramerfiely each added 1 goal and 1 assist.  Ryan Hall was again huge in the cage, turning away several point blank shots and finished the game with 13 saves.
Final Score:  Aviators 4, Warriors 8.
Overall Record:  9-3.
OMSLA Record: 8-1.
2007/2008 Record: 21-10.

4/26 vs. Carmel Greyhounds (@ Carmel, IN)
   - After taking a 90-minute lunch break, Sycamore forgot to refocus their efforts on a team billed as the best middle school lacrosse team in Indiana.  The lack of focus and concentration was so evident that the Sycamore coaching staff forced the Aviators to make their own substituations and adjustments in an effort to get the team to band together.  After a tied first half, the pizza and cake began to take its toll, with Sycamore losing the second half and the game.  Charlie Johnson, Sam Kramerfiely, Derrick Kihembo, Vladimir Jovic, Keaton Pangallo and Tommy Rivera each scored 1 goal in the game.  Kihembo and Sean Cone added 2 assists, with Bo Weber assisting on another Aviator goal.  Ryan Hall had his worst save percentage of the season, stopping 9 of 18 shots.
Final Score:  Aviators 6, Greyhounds 9.
Overall Record:  9-4.
OMSLA Record: 8-1.
2007/2008 Record: 21-11.

4/26 vs. Western Springs (@ Carmel, IN)
   - Another 90-minute break allowed the Sycamore coaches and players to "get on the same page" after not having been in the same book the previous game.  A novice officiating crew made it difficult for either team to get into an offensive rhythm, but the Aviators were finally able to generate some offensive looks in the second half.  Sean Cone and Sam Kramerfiely continued their battle for the season lead in groundballs, with each adding 5 to his season total.  Scoring leaders for Sycamore were Kramerfiely (2 goals, 2 assists), Keaton Pangallo (2 goals), Derrick Kihembo (1 goal), and Cone (1 goal).  The Aves' leading scorer on the season, Kihembo, played just over 1 quarter after drawing his second unsportsmanlike conduct penalty of the day.
Final Score:  Aviators 7, Western Springs 5.
Overall Record:  10-4.
OMSLA Record: 8-1.
2007/2008 Record: 22-11.

4/29 vs. Mason
   - Sycamore's players and coaches were looking forward to getting back to Cincinnati competition, as there were just 5 regular season games left before the City Tournament and State Tournament.  After 3 classic contests in the 2007 season, in which 2 games were decided by 1 goal and the other was decided by 2, the Aviators were focused and patient.  The first Aviator possession of the game lasted well over 2 minutes, as their middies and attackmen worked to get open looks.  Sam Kramerfiely scored the first 3 Sycamore goals, with the last being assisted by Derrick Kihembo on a nice feed from GLE.  After Sean Cone score his first goal of the game, Kihembo put a pair behind the goalie, sandwiched around another assist on Kyle Sess' lone goal of the game.  Goals by Kramerfiely, Cone and Kihembo rounded out the Aviator's scoring efforts.  After holding a shutout heading into the 3rd quarter, the Aviator defense let up 3 in the second half.  Ryan Hall faced just 10 shots in the game.
Final Score:  Aviators 10, Comets 3.
Overall Record:  11-4.
OMSLA Record: 9-1.
2007/2008 Record: 23-11.

5/5 vs. Middletown Fenwick
   - Heading into the final stretch of the regular season, the Aviators looked to begin working through the lines that they'd be using in the State Tournament, while also maintaining their offensive momentum.  It was actually a slow start on the defensive side of the field that had the Aviators sweating early, as they led by just 3-2 at the end of the first quarter.  In the first quarter, Derrick Kihembo tallied 2 unassisted goals with Sam Kramerfiely adding a goal of his own that was assisted by Bo Weber.  The 2nd quarter turned the tide in the game, with Sycamroe outscoring the Falcons 3-1 on goals by Weber (assisted by Kramerfiely), Kramerfiely  and Kyle Sess (assisted by Sean Cone).  Goalie Ryan Hall and the rest of the Sycamore defense turned up the pressure in the 2nd half, allowing just 6 shots and 0 goals, while the Aviator offense erupted for 4 goals in the 3rd quarter and 3 more in the 4th to finish out the contest.  Leading scorers for the Aves were Kihembo (4 goals, 3 assists), Kramerfiely (3 goals, 1 assist), Cone (1 goal, 1 assist), Weber (1 goal, 1 assist), Adam Cole (1 goal), Keaton Pangallo (1 goal), Jonah Bettman (1 goal), Sess (1 goal).  Once again, Sycamore dominated the faceoff battle, winning 14 of 20 but committed 14 unforced errors on the day.
Final Score:  Aviators 13, Falcons 3.
Overall Record:  12-4.
OMSLA Record: 9-1.
2007/2008 Record: 24-11.

5/7 vs. Anderson
   - Wanting to end the regular season on a 5 game winning streak, the Aviators needed to repeat their earlier performance against a strong Blue Jays team and then finish out the season with a win against Wyoming.  Sycamore started the game too aggressively on defense, sliding too soon and leaving wide open men on the doorstep.  The Blue Jays scored the first 3 goals of the game before Sycamore got on the board with a pair of unassisted goals by Sean Cone.  Another Blue Jays goal left the score 4-2 at the end of the first quarter and neither team was able to score in the second quarter.  Sam Kramerfiely tallied the only goal of the second half for either team and was assisted by Derrick Kihembo.  With the loss, Sycamore falls to 3-3 in games decided by 2 goals or less.  The Aviators set a season high with 21 unforced errors.
Final Score:  Aviators 3, Blue Jays 4.
Overall Record:  12-5.
OMSLA Record: 9-1.
2007/2008 Record: 24-12.

5/12 vs. Wyoming
   -
Final Score:  Aviators , Cowboys .
Overall Record:  12-5.
OMSLA Record: 9-1.
2007/2008 Record: 24-12.

2007 Game Results

3/7 @ Indian Hill
   - Midfielder Derrick Kihembo led all scorers with 3 goals, followed Chase Spicer adding 2 goals from the Attack position.  Sycamore trailed 3-2 at halftime and 4-2 entering the 4th quarter.  Kihembo scored 2 goals in the 4th quarter, sandwiched around an assist on Spicer's 2nd goal.  Jeffrey Wolkoff in goal added many saves to the effort.  The defense was led by Captain Aaron Grzegorzewski.  Two hustle plays in the 4th quarter showed that the Aviators came to win.  First, Sam Kramerfiely forced the Indian Hill goalie out of bounds on a clear, followed shortly after that by Kevin Carroll saving a ball from going out of bounds by flipping it over his head to Kihembo, leading to the last goal by Sycamore.
Final Score:  Aviators 5, Braves 4.
Overall Record:  1-0.
OMSLA Record: 1-0.

3/14 vs. Mason
   - Derrick Kihembo, Chase Spicer and Trevor Kress each scored first half goals for the Aviators as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead.  Mason scored a 2nd quarter goal and a 4th quarter goal to close the gap to 3-2, but Jeffrey Wolkoff again came through in the clutch, totaling 18 saves on the day.  Assists were tallied by Chase Spicer on the Kress goal and Trevor Kress on the Spicer goal.  The Man Down unit (Jack Bernard, Sam Kramerfiely, Colby Kreger, Josh Toney and Aaron Grzegorzewski) held Mason scoreless on their opportunities.

Overall Record: 2-0.
OMSLA Record: 2-0.

3/19 vs. Mariemont
   - Chase Spicer and Derrick Kihembo tallied 3 goals apiece, while Jeff Brown and Kevin Carroll added 1 each from the Attack position and Bo Weber added 1 from the Midfield off a faceoff fastbreak.  Assists were contributed by Sam Kramerfiely (on a Spicer goal), Derrick Kihembo (on Carroll's goal) and Devin Gresky (on Brown's goal).  Sycamore's faceoff teams dominated the day, winning 14 out of 20, with Sam Kramerfiely leading the charge.  Another solid performance was turned in by Goalie Jeffrey Wolkoff who totaled 11 saves and again was a critical piece in the Aviator's clearing attempts.  On the other end of the field, the Attack generated 3 turnovers on rides, 1 each by Chase Spicer, Jeff Brown and Ryan Kast.  Middie Sean Cone's lift on a groundball led to a fastbreak goal.  Additionally, great defensive plays were turned in by Peter Giannetti, Derrick Kihembo, Sam Kramerfiely and Kevin Carroll.  After jumping out to a large lead, Sycamore was not able to get a single shot on goal in the 4th quarter, allowing Mariemont to make a late charge.  It wasn't enough, as the Aviators held on for their 3rd consecutive victory.
Final Score: Aviators 9, Warriors 7.
Overall Record: 3-0.
OMSLA Record: 3-0.

3/21 @ Anderson
   - The Blue Jays struck quickly, scoring their first goal less than 20 seconds into to contest, followed shortly thereafter by 2 more.  The Aviators struggled all day on faceoffs, losing all 14 draws.  Chase Spicer led all Sycamore players with 2 goals, while Jeff Brown also added one.  Trevor Kress tallied 1 assist (on a Spicer goal).  Jeffrey Wolkoff continued his stellar play in the crase, totaling 17 saves against a skilled offensive team.  The storyline of the day was unforced errors, with the Aviators losing 17 possessions through bad passes, missed catches and dropped balls.  Despite losing 6-0 at halftime, Sycamore played Anderson even in the second half and will take that momentum into their next contest.
Final Score:  Aviators 3, Blue Jays 9.
Overall Record: 3-1.
OMSLA Record: 3-1.

4/2 vs. Kings

- A great team effort on riding and clears led the effort for Sycamore, as they won all facets of the game against the Knights.  The Aviators were led offensively by 4 goals from Derrick Kihembo and 2 goals from Chase Spicer.  Also adding goals for Sycamore were Jeff Brown (with 2) and Sean Cone (shorthanded).  Assists were contributed by Ryan Kast (on Brown's 2nd goal) and Trevor Kress (on Spicer's EMO goal).  The Aviator defense only allowed 16 shots the entire game, with Jeffrey "Money" Wolkoff making 13 saves.  Showing a great amount of hustle, Kress collected 7 groundballs during the game, leading to many scoring opportunities.  Sycamore's faceoff Midfielders came back with a solid performance, winning 10 of the 14 faceoffs.  The Knights tried to slow the Aviator assault by relying on a zone defense throughout the contest, but quick passing and pushing fast breaks proved to be too much, as the Aviators won going away.
Final Score:  Aviators 9, Knights 3.
Overall Record: 4-1.
OMSLA Record: 4-1.

4/4 vs. Lakota
   - An all-around defensive effort led the Aviators to a thrilling overtime victory against a tough Thunderbird team.  Defenseman Jack Bernard turned in his best performance to date, with several knocked down passes and stick checks.  Chase Spicer and Kevin Carroll tallied goals for Sycamore, while Derrick Kihembo continued his scoring onslaught, tallying 2 goals including the game winner just 24 seconds into overtime.  Assists were contributed by Trevor Kress on Spicer's EMO goal and Spicer on Carroll's EMO goal.  Jeffrey "Money" Wolkoff continued to earn his nickname, totaling 14 saves on 17 shots.  Sycamore led 3-1 going into the 4th quarter, but a couple of unforced errors led to Lakota goals.  Sycamore won the opening faceoff in overtime (they won 8 out of 11 on the day), and never lost possession.  Kihembo beat his man on a dodge and put his shot in the upper corner for the win.
Final Score:  Aviators 4, Thunderbirds 3 (OT)
Overall Record:  5-1
OMSLA Record: 5-1

4/7 vs. Dayton
   - The Aviators defeated an overmatched Dayton squad in every aspect of the game, save for faceoffs.  Dayton won more than 2/3 of the faceoffs on the day but was unable to generate many scoring opportunities.  Despite 6 man down situations, Dayton was unable to score an EMO goal but did score 2 even-strength goals.  Of the 10 offensive players that the Aviators dressed, 9 scored at least 1 point.  Chase Spicer tallied 4 goals and 2 assists to lead all scorers, while Jeff Brown added 3 goals and 1 assist, Kevin Carroll had 2 goals and 3 assists, Ryan Kast scored 2 goals, Trevor Kress added 1 goal and 3 assists, Sam Kramerfiely scored 2 goals, Steve Froh scored 1 goal, Alex Kirschner gave out 1 assist and Tom Rivera also tallied 1 assist.  On the day, Sycamore added assists to 11 of it's 15 goals.  Goalie Jeffrey Wolkoff had 2 shots on goal and scored once, but his shot went through a hole in the net and was not counted.  A total team effort led to the victory and will be used as a building block for the 1 week layoff that the Aviators enjoy until their next contest.
Final Score:  Aviators 15, Dayton 2.
Overall Record: 6-1.
OMSLA Record: 6-1.

4/13 vs. Loveland
   - Loveland jumped out to a quick lead and Sycamore was never able to make a rally.  Chase Spicer scored 3 goals, with Derrick Kihembo and Sam Kramerfiely adding 1 each.  Kevin Carroll assisted on the Kramerfiely goal and Trevor Kress assisted on 1 of Spicer's.  All 3 of Spicer's goals came during EMO sets.  Defensively, the Aves were undone by overly aggressive "on ball" defense in the first half, leading to open cutters for the Tigers near the crease.  At halftime, Sycamore trailed 7-2 and switched to a zone look in the second half.  Despite Goalie Jeffrey Wolkoff going down with an injury in the 2nd half, Sycamore only allowed 3 goals in the 2nd half thanks to a great effort by backup Goalie Ryan Hall.  On the day, Wolkoff tallied 15 saves and Hall added 4.  Sycamore's man-down defense effectively killed a 6 on 4 and several 6 on 5 situations, keeping the Aves in the game late.
Final Score:  Aviators 5, Tigers 10.
Overall Record:  6-2.

4/25 vs. Mariemont
    - Sycamore played its 3rd game in 5 days (in a stretch of 6 games in 12 days) against a tough Mariemont opponent that had recently lost in OT to Loveland.  Fatigue appeared to be a factor, as the Aviators played sloppy on offense and were called for 8 penalties, allowing Mariemont to keep the game close and ultimately led to the game going to overtime.  Sycamore won the opening faceoff in overtime and never lost possession, winning on a goal by Jeff Brown and an assist by Chase Spicer.  On the day, Spicer tallied 4 goals and 3 assists, with Brown adding 3 goals, Devin Gresky scoring 1 goal, and Kevin Carroll adding an assist.  Jeffrey Wolkoff totaled 17 saves on the day, giving up several goals on fastbreak situations.  The Aves will use the 2 days of rest, prior to their game against the Blue Jays, to get themselves rejuvenated.

4/28 vs. Anderson

- Sycamore was looking forward to the opportunity to avenge 1 of 2 losses on the season and came to the field hungry to do so.  Anderson sent their A team to a different game and Sycamore was forced to play a weaker B team.  Sycamore started the game quickly, scoring a goal off of the initial faceoff less than 20 seconds after the opening whistle.  Sean Cone won the faceoff and made a great pass to Chase Spicer, who scored the first of his 2 goals on the day.  On the day, the Aviators dominated faceoffs, winning 10 out of 13.  Cone won 4 of 5, Sam Kramerfiely won 4 of 6, Spicer won 1 of 1 and Bo Weber won 1 of 1.  Cone's only loss was on a procedure violation.  Sycamore's offensive effort was led by the Attack, each of whom scored 2 goals.  Spicer tallied 2 goals, Jeff Brown tallied 3, Ryan Kast added 2 and Trevor Kress also added 2 (1 from Attack and 1 from Midfield).  Spicer added 3 assists, Kast added 1 and Kramerfiely also received an assist.  In Spicer's last 4 games, he has solidified himself as the engine of the Aviator offense, totaling 11 goals and 9 assists.  The biggest beneficiary of his unselfish play has been Brown, who has 10 goals over that same stretch.  Jeffrey Wolkoff nearly chalked up another shutout, giving up only 1 goal on 11 shots.  Four midfield lines kept Sycamore fresh, as it is in the middle of a 6-game-in-12-day stretch.  The Crusaders are next up for Sycamore, as they continue their march toward a State Tournament berth.
Final Score:  9-1.
Overall Record:  10-2.
OMSLA Record 8-2.

4/30 vs. Moeller

- The Aviators took on a tough Crusader team and was unable to to capitalize on Man-Up opportunities, which ultimately led to a loss.  The game MVP was Jeffrey Wolkoff, as he made 20 saves on 26 shots, many of which came at point blank range.  He also initiated several successful clears that led to scoring opportunities for Sycamore.  The story of the day was the lack of success on faceoffs by the Aviators.  After winning the battle in the last few games, Sycamore lost 10 of the 13 faceoffs contested on the afternoon.  Scoring leaders for the Aviators were Chase Spicer (1 goal, 1 assist), Trevor Kress (1 goal), and Kevin Carroll (1 goal on EMO).  Moeller held Sycamore to a season low in shots, with 12 and a season low in grounballs, with 10.  The Aviators will finish up their tough stretch of games with a rematch against Mason on Wednesday.
Final Score:  Aviators 3, Crusaders 6.
Overall Record:  10-3.
OMSLA Record: 8-3.

5/2 @ Mason

  - Sycamore jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in their rematch against Mason.  Unfortunately, Mason answered with a 5 goal run and Sycamore was never able to mount a comeback.  The game changed in the second quarter, which started at a 2-2 tie.  Mason scored 3 goals in the period but Sycamore was only able to create 1 shot on goal.  Once again, the story of the day was the inability of the Aves to win faceoffs, winning only 2 of 15.  One of the faceoff victories for Sycamore came on a procedure penalty against Mason.  The scoring effort for the Aviators was led by Chase Spicer with 3 goals.  Fellow goal scorers were Trevor Kress with 1 and Derrick Kihembo with 1.  Assists were contributed by Trevor Kress with 1 and Kevin Carroll with 1.  Jeffrey Wolkoff kept the game close, totaling 17 saves on 25 shots.  Sycamore commited 5 time-serving penalties, with Mason scoring on 4 of them.  Sycamore has 1 week off until their contest against the Thunderbirds and will use it to tweak its offense and EMO sets.

Overall Record:  10-4.
OMSLA Record:  8-3.

5/9 @ Lakota
   - Sycamore was able to win the faceoff battle against Lakota, winning 6 of 11 draws.  Unfortunately, the Aviators commited 16 unforced turnovers, negating their offensive efforts.  Due to the turnovers, Sycamore managed just 12 shots on goal, matching the second lowest total of the season.  Fortunately for the Aviators, their defense was once again very solid and was led by Jack Bernard and Jeffrey Wolkoff.  Wolkoff faced 25 shots on the day and was able to turn away 20 of them.  Kevin Carroll scored a goal in an EMO situation and was assisted by Chase Spicer.  Derrick Kihembo and Ryan Kast also added goals (both unassisted).  The Thunderbirds and Aves were tied 0-0 after the first quarter, but Lakota outscored Sycamore 4-2 in the second quarter.  Sycamore will look to end its 3 game losing streak on Monday against Indian Hill in order to generate some momentum going into the state tournament.

Overall Record:  10-5.
OMSLA Record:  8-3.

5/14 vs. Indian Hill
   - Sycamore finished off the regular season with a bang, bettering their scoring output in all but one game.  In addition, Sycamore only commited 3 time-serving penalties (the lowest of the season), minimizing EMO opportunities for a scrappy Indian Hill team.  Chase Spicer led the Aviators in scoring, adding 2 goals and 5 assists to his season totals.  Jeff Brown buried 4 shots in the back of the goal, with Kevin Carroll and Derrick Kihembo adding hat tricks of their own.  Trevor Kress made 2 assists on the game, 1 on James Chrisman's goal.  Sycamore's defense, usually a force, gave up 9 goals on only 21 shots.  Aaron Grzegorzewski led all players with 5 groundballs and Jack Bernard added 4 great defensive plays.  Indian Hill was held in check at the faceoff "X," winning 10 out of 24.  Several of the Indian Hill faceoff victories were attributed to illegal procedure penalties against the Aviator faceoff men.  Putting  a stop to its 3 game losing streak will provide a hungry Aviator team with momentum going into the OMSLA Tournament, where they face #4 Hudson in a 4 vs. 5 matchup.  Sycamore's regular season earned a #5 seed in Division 1, making them a top 10 team in Ohio.
Final Score:  Aviators 13, Braves 9.
OMSLA Record:  8-3.
Overall Record:  11-5.

5/19 vs. Hudson (State Tournament @ Dublin)
   -
The Aviators opened their tournament run against a tough Hudson team that was seeded #4 in Division 1.  Sycamore played a zone defense for the majority of the game and held Hudson's leading scorer (110 goals in the regular season) scoreless.  The zone defense was effective and allowed Jeffrey Wolkoff to stop 25 of 30 shots on the day.  The Aviators lost the faceoff battle 5-4, though each battle was close.  Trailing 3-1 early in the 4th quarter, Sycamore changed to a man-to-man defense and the game began to turn in their favor.  Chase Spicer found Jeff Brown open on the crease twice.  Unfortunately, Jeff's first shot hit a pipe and bounced away while the second shot was caught up in the goalie's sweatpants and didn't get across the goal line.  Hudson was able to score 2 goals late, providing the final margin of victory.  With 2 more victories, Sycamore will still be able to secure a 5th place ranking in Division 1.
Final Score:  Aviators 1, Hudson 5.
OMSLA Record:  8-3.
Overall Record:  11-6.

5/19 vs. Olentangy Shanahan (State Tournament @ Dublin)
   - Sycamore faced a physical Shanahan team and did a great job of focusing on the task at hand -- winning and advancing.  The faceoff battle was tied 8-8, though 4 of Sean Cone's losses came on procedure penalties.  Sean was 4 of 9 in the game and Alex Straubing was 4 of 5.  The Aviators again struggled to stay out of the penalty box, totaling 7 time serving penalties.  Fortunately, Sycamore's Man Down Defense was able to limit Shanahan's effectiveness in their EMO sets.  Sycamore again relied on a zone defense to slow the Shanahan attack, with great defensive plays turned in by Jack Bernard (5), Jake LaRoche (4), Aaron Grzegorzewski (2) and Peter Giannetti (2).  Jeffrey Wolkoff again made many great saves, totaling 18 saves on 24 shots.  The Aviators found their offensive groove in this game, with scorers led by Chase Spicer (4 goals, 2 assists), Jeff Brown (2 goals), Trevor Kress (2 assists), Kevin Carroll (1 goal, 1 assist), Derrick Kihembo (1 goal) and Sean Cone (1 assist).  Shanahan's physicality led to several EMO sets for Sycamore, who was able to capitalize with 3 goals, including the final goal scored with 1 second left in the game.  With the victory, the Aviators will take on Mason to determine 5th place in Division 1.
Final Score:  Aviators 8, Shanahan 6.
OMSLA Record:  8-3.
Overall Record:  12-6.

5/20 vs. Mason (State Tournament @ Dublin)
    - Sycamore and Mason faced off for the 3rd time of the season to determine 5th place in Division 1.  The Comets and Aviators played another classic game, this on being decided in overtime.  Sycamore's midfielders struggled, winning only 5 of 15 faceoffs held in the contest.  With Jack Bernard's thumb being broken in the Shanahan game, the Aviators relied on Steve Froh to step in to play Defense.  Froh was able to win several groundballs and use his speed to effectively clear the ball and start offensive sets for the Aves.  Offensively, Sycamore tallied 5 goals against Mason, with Chase Spicer adding 3 goals to his season total, Derrick Kihembo adding 1 goal and 1 assist, Kevin Carroll tallying 1 goal and Sean Cone adding 1 assist.  The Aviator defense and goalie turned in another gem, limiting Mason to mostly outside shots and making 15 saves on 21 shots.  Mason won the opening faceoff in overtime and never lost possession, handing the Aviators their first OT loss of the season and running Sycamore's record in games decided by 2 goals or less to 7-2.
Final Score:  Aviators 5, Comets 6 (OT).
OMSLA Record:  8-3.
Overall Record:  12-7.
