F.A.Q. for New Parents/Players
1. What are the dates of the season?
Our first games are typically the last weekend of March or first weekend of April. Practices start 2-3 weeks prior to those games, meaning that practices generally start at the beginning of March. Our last games are generally the weekend of (or following) Mother's Day in mid-May.2. When are practices?
Practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30pm to 7:00pm at the Sycamore HS Practice fields on Cornell Rd. The A/B teams (primarily 5th and 6th graders) will practice together and the C team (primarily 2nd thru 4th graders) will practice together. 3. When/where are games?
Games are played Saturday’s (generally morning) and will be played in the local area. Typically, games will be played at Indian Hill, Lakota, Mason, Wyoming and Sycamore.
4. What do I need to provide?
The girls will need to supply a stick, goggles, and a mouth piece (not clear or white). By rule the girls’ mouthpiece must NOT have a strap. The girls will also need cleats (lax or soccer preferred)
5. What equipment does Sycamore Lacrosse Club provide?
Sycamore Lacrosse Club will provide each girl’s uniform as well as equipment for the goalie, balls, goals, practice jerseys, etc.
6. I'm new to lacrosse. Will I be left out?
Absolutely not! Since we started in 2001, we average 60% new players/parents each year. Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the US, according to a 2005 article in Sports Illustrated. As of 2008, there were almost 10,000 lacrosse players and coaches in Cincinnati, but we add more new faces every year!
7. Is lacrosse physical?
While there is some contact while going after ground balls, the girls’ rules prevent and penalize any overt body contact. Additionally, they play with modified stick checking rules that prevent and penalize any stick to stick contact. (until they reach 7th grade) The game is NOT played the same as the boys relative to contact.
